Production Pipeline:

Level Mapper has 2 components (Tile Grabber and Map Editor) with a 2 stage map creation process.

  • Firstly, a Tile Grabber tool, converts bitmap files in to 'tile-sets'.
  • Next, a Map Editor tool, handles the actual map creation and editing.

We recommend you take a look at the production pipeline for an overview of this process and suggestions on recommended usage.

Tile Grabber major features include:

  • Takes parameters from a control (standard text) file.
  • Grabs 16 and 256 colour tile-sets.
  • Grabs normal (8 * 8 pixel) tiles or 'meta-tiles' (user-defined size).
  • Exports a wide range of data files.
  • Exports a diagnostic bitmap showing unique tiles etc.

Map Editor major features include:

  • Super fast 'cut and paste' multi-tile editing.
  • Instant navigation via map thumb-nail.
  • Create and store multiple brushes.
  • Built-in tile attribute (properties) editing.
  • Support for 16 and 256 colour tiles.
  • Map sizes up to 512 * 512 tiles.
  • Support for maps with up to 4 layers.
  • Individual transparency level for each layer.
  • Support for 'meta-tiles' (user-defined size).
  • Support for H / V tile flipping.
  • Export / Import maps and layers as bitmaps.
  • Open / Save maps and layers in custom format.
  • Runs under our full-screen DirectX GUI.
